50th Birthday Party Ideas

An "authentically old-fashioned Person"

Not at everyone who is turning 50 are sensitive about their age. If this is the case, then perhaps throwing an authentically old-fashioned Person' Party would not be a bad idea. First of all, you can simulate the atmosphere of a uniquely antique ambiance. You can place fresh flowers in metal buckets or create similar centerpieces. Little wooden wheel barrels and other antique looking items can easily be purchased fairly cheap at a local crafts store. Use plenty of candles. You can also get a lot of great ideas by visiting a lot of garage sales and flea markets. The object is to create an atmosphere of aged looking items from the era in which he or she grew up.

Choose His Favorite Activity

Find out what his or her favorite thing is and design a birthday around it. Perhaps he likes to go fishing. If this is the case, try renting a large boat like a flat bed or a house boat and take a few family and friends out for some fishing and a cookout on the lake.

“Imitation” The Highest Form Of Flattery

It is said that Imitation is the highest form of flattery, so why not do just that? You and your guests can come to the party dressed up to look just like the guest of honor. Have each guest write shirt story about something funny that your birthday boy or girl has done in the past. After everyone has read the story aloud, add them all to a scrapbook for him or her to keep. You can also take a Polaroid of each guest as they are dressed up like the guest of honor and add them with their stories.

Roast ‘Em

It’s virtually a long forgotten tradition to roast a 40 year old. Just like the famous one’s that you’ve seen on television, hold a banquette where your guest of honor sits at the head table along with a few choice family members and friends that are chosen to speak. Each person stands and gives a humorous speech in which they point out hilarious and embarrassing aspects of the guest of honor. The evening will be full of laughs and nobody will ever want it to end; well except for the birthday boy. This is best done if your guest of honor knows how to take a joke of course.

Taking A Walk Down Memory Lane

This one just might take a little bit of research. Try and locate old friends of the birthday Boy or Girl from their life as they were growing up. Although difficult, it shouldn’t be as hard now that we are in the age of the Internet. They can appear at the birthday party in sort of a “This is your life’ motif.

Decorate the cake to appear as an old keepsake or game that he or she used to play with growing up. Or better yet, actually go as far as locating those old games on the internet and play them at the party.

Find an old memorable picture of him and have it enlarged. All of the guests can sign the enlarged photo and then give it to him at the end of the party as a final gift of the evening.
